We’ve put together a new website to further advance the efforts of the Chef’s Table Society of BC. The only thing that we’ve kept the same is our forum, which you can get to by clicking the “FORUM” link above the banner up top. Otherwise, it’s all brand new. We’d appreciate it if you navigated around and gave us some feedback in the comment field below. We aim to keep to our membership and the general public more informed with this new project, so we’ll be keeping this page updated as often as we can.

One of the CTS board directors put together a short slideshow film of this year’s Spot Prawn Festival. Once again, the event was a tremendous success! Thanks to everyone who contributed their time and energy to making it happen.

Vikram Vij was born in India in December 1964 and lived in New Delhi and Bombay until 1984. He studied Hotel Management in Salzburg, Austria. Since 1989 he has been living in Canada and worked in various capacities at the Banff Springs Hotel, as well as at Bishop’s and Rain City Grill restaurants in Vancouver. In September 1994 he opened Vij’s Restaurant.

Vikram and his wife, Meeru, create all the recipes at Vij’s and the menu changes according to the seasons. The menu consists of seven appetizers and nine main courses. The wine list carries twelve different varietals that also change in conjunction with the menu.

Vij’s Restaurant won Vancouver magazine’s 1995 and 1997 to 2002 gold award for best South Asian restaurant and won Where magazine’s 1999 and 2001 Most Memorable Meal Awards for best ethnic restaurant. Vij’s was listed in the top five Vancouver restaurants in Gourmet magazine’s 1999 annual restaurant awards. In May 1998, Vij’s was one of the twenty featured restaurants at the James Beard Annual Gala Awards and Dinner in New York City, and has been invited to prepare dinner at the James Beard House. Vij’s Restaurant has also been featured in several North American television broadcasts and publications, including Food and Television Network, CNN, The Globe and Mail, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Travel and Leisure, Food and Wine, Bon Appetit and Sunset. Vij’s was also featured in the spring 2000 issue of Art Culinaire. In Autumn 2001, Vikram became a member of the Chaine des Rotisseurs.

A PR specialist in restaurant, lifestyle and fashion public relations, Tiffany Soper honed her publicity and event management skills while providing PR support for several of Vancouver’s leading restaurants including: Fuel Restaurant, Aurora Bistro and Bin 941 & Bin 942. Amongst her many accomplishments working in the PR arena, Tiffany worked along side some of Vancouver’s top food media critics, and 54 of BC’s best chefs as Associate Editor of Vancouver Cooks cookbook. Before graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce from Royal Roads University in 2002, Tiffany developed her communication skills and industry knowledge during eight years working in the hospitality industry.

Karri Schuermans background is in marketing, specializing in corporate branding and merchandising. She was the co-owner and creator of Twice Shy Productions. Before opening Chambar Restaurant, which she runs with with her husband, chef Nico Schuermans, Karri was the International Film Manager for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, her role being to ensure positive exposure for Sydney’s attributes and define Sydney as the business center for the Asian South Pacific. Prior to that, Karri was the Marketing Manager for the City of Sydney, Director for the Peninsular Community Internet Network, and the editor of the Northern Beaches magazine.

Dino Renaerts is executive chef of Diva at the Met and president of the BC Chefs’ Association. A graduate of the Dubrulle International Culinary Institute, Renaerts was named Vancouver’s rising star by Vancouver Magazine, The Province newspaper and CityFood Magazine (2000). He holds the unique distinction of being recognized as the first Western Canadian chef to receive a sommelier certificate.

Giuseppe (Pino) Posteraro was born in Lago, Italy March 22, 1964. At the age of twelve he came to Canada to visit his brother not realizing at the time that later in his life he would be making Canada his permanent home. After beginning training as a medical student, an incident made Pino change track and he decided to come to Canada to work for his brother in his restaurant. Pino later returned to Europe to study with Armando Zanetti who became his mentor. Before returning to Canada he worked in several well known restaurants in Europe and Singapore. In 1999 Pino decided it was time to venture out on his own. He opened Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill in Yaletown in September of that year, providing Vancouver with an outstanding Italian/Mediterranean restaurant which has gained many awards for its food and wine and is classed as one of Vancouver’s top fine dining restaurants.

Andrew Morrison was born in Vancouver then schooled, raised, and rumpled in Toronto and Victoria before moving to South Africa to study history and classics at the University of Cape Town. While on a stint at the University of Toronto, he married and started a successful career as a breeder, finally returning to the coast with his young family in 2002.

Growing up in the restaurant trade, Morrison spent two decades washing dishes, bussing tables, serving, and managing before landing a side gig as the food critic for the Westender newspaper in 2005. A year later, he quit the business to concentrate on writing about food and restaurants full time.

In addition to his oversight of Urban Diner, its forum (UDF), and his weekly Westender column (also called Urban Diner), Morrison is a contributor to Vancouver Magazine and its annual Eating and Drinking Guide, as well as the Vancouver editor of EAT Magazine.

He lives and works by the beach in West Vancouver.
